International tensions continue to have a major impact in various corners of the world. Global conflicts are often triggered by interrelated economic, political and social factors. In this analysis, we will explore some of the main causes of international tensions that have affected relations between countries and their impact on global security. One of the main causes of international tension is competition for natural resources. Countries rich in resources, such as oil and gas, are often the targets of territorial disputes. For example, the South China Sea is a hot spot, where a number of countries claim rights to areas rich in marine resources. These tensions have resulted in the militarization of the region and created uncertainty for international shipping. Apart from that, political ideology also plays an important role in global conflicts. Ideological differences between democratic and authoritarian countries often create tension. For example, tensions between the US and North Korea are driven not only by the nuclear program, but also by differences in government systems. Military interventions carried out to support one regime or overthrow another regime often result in prolonged conflict, as seen in Syria. Economic factors also play a vital role in exacerbating international tensions. Global economic crises, such as those that occurred in 2008, cause many countries to seek to protect their economic interests through protectionist measures. This often fuels trade tensions, as seen in the trade war between the US and China. This tension not only affects the economies of the two countries but also spreads throughout the world. Apart from the factors above, the movement of refugees due to war and conflict can also exacerbate international tensions. Many countries, especially in Europe, experience challenges in welcoming refugees from countries in conflict. Rising nationalist sentiment is often accompanied by rejection of refugees, creating social tensions within these countries. Social media also has a significant impact on public perceptions and reactions to global conflicts. Much of the information shared on these platforms can trigger emotions and make it difficult to resolve conflicts. Fake news and propaganda are often used by certain parties to damage an enemy’s reputation and provoke action. This international tension cannot be underestimated, because its impact can spread to various sectors, including the global economy, political stability and security throughout the world. Efforts to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy must continue to be emphasized, in addition to efforts to address the root problems underlying the conflict.
